If you have previously installed MPNews 4, you will be prompted to run an
upgrade utility when you first install MPNews 5. This utility will guide
you through the process of copying all your existing newsgroups and messages
from your previous database into the new MPNews 5 message storage system,
and upgrade your settings to the new formats so they are not lost.
Due to the extent that some features have been upgraded in MPNews 5, it may
not be possible to migrate all your previous settings exactly. The following
items will not be imported:
- Web templates. All virtual servers will use the new default web template
after the upgrade.
- Access control and filtering plugins. The required interfaces for these
plugins have changed, so your custom plugin code will need to be altered
for these to work correctly with MPNews 5.
There will occasionally be new releases of MPNews 5 in order to include minor
alterations and bug fixes. These will be announced on the mps.mpnews.upgrades
newsgroup. When an update is released, you can install it by downloading
the latest version of MPNews and installing directly over the top of your
existing version.
