When you no longer require a newsgroup that is set up on your server, you have
three possible options when you come to delete it. All these options are available
by going to the Newsgroup List page in the virtual server administration website
and clicking on the "Edit Newsgroup" link next to the newsgroup you want to delete.
Delete
This option deletes the newsgroup from the current and any other virtual servers to
which the newsgroup may belong. Any messages in the newsgroup are lost.
This is the default method of deleting a newsgroup which will be used if you simply
select a newsgroup from the main Newsgroup List page and press Delete.
Delete and Move
This option deletes the newsgroup from the current and any other virtual servers to
which the newsgroup may belong. Any messages in the newsgroup are copied to another
newsgroup that you select before the newsgroup is deleted.
This option is a useful method of consolidating multiple newsgroups. If you have many
newsgroups and want to have only one, create the new newsgroup then delete the others,
ensuring you select the new newsgroup to copy all the messages into first.
Remove
This option does not permanently delete the newsgroup, but removes it from the list
of newsgroups that are accessible from the selected virtual server. The newsgroup and
all the messages in it are still stored on the server, and are available from any other
virtual servers to which the newsgroup may belong.
After removing the newsgroup from the virtual server, you can add it back later by
using the normal "Add Newsgroup" link and entering the name of the newsgroup. Instead
of creating a new newsgroup with that name, the existing one will be added back, along
with all of its messages.
